If my info is correct, it has 2 Thunderbolt 4 connections (is that the same as USB-C?), 1 HDMI 2.0 connection, and 2 USB A connections. My other question is about connecting everything to the Mac Mini. Thanks for the helpful comment! I’ll paste a comment reply I just made about 16 vs 8gb and also connection questions, thanks for the help! I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but getting real close. I was told I can get a Thunderbolt to HDMI converter for the monitor, so that would leave the other Thunderbolt for an external hard drive, right? My knowledge is limited so any help on this is welcome, thanks! I’m getting a Wacom Cintiq 16 drawing tablet, which uses one USB A connection plus the HDMI connection, and the other USB A connection is for keyboard/mouse. Do you think 16 vs 8gb of ram would still help me?

I don’t plan to use it for high-end hi def video editing. I want to use it for digital art and some animations, I guess with Photoshop and also Clip Studio Paint Pro ($50 version of Photoshop some digital artists use), and also some Blender. The takeaway from this is that yes, these Apple Silicon computers can be upgraded, but whether or not you should is a different story. Thanks for the helpful comment (many helpful comments I’ve gotten!), I was wondering if I’d really need 16gb of ram instead of 8, 8 is more than my older systems lol. Lastly, it’s not as easy to get your hands on DRAM and NAND chips that are used in the Mac mini as they are not exactly commercially available.

Secondly, it would require you to desolder the modules in the Mac mini and if you have no experience doing this, there’s a good chance you end up destroying your entire computer.

For starters, it would most certainly void your warranty, unlike the RAM upgrade in the iMac which actually doesn’t. Now before you get too excited that upgrading your M1 Mac mini, there are several reasons you shouldn’t do this. This is according to reports in which it claims that engineers in China have found a way to expand on the storage and the RAM of the M1 Mac mini, bumping it from 8GB to 16GB of RAM, and storage from 256GB to 1TB. However, the newer M1 Mac computers have become even less upgradeable than before, but it turns out that you can upgrade them if you wish. While Apple’s computers have never really been what you would call customizable (save for the Mac Pro), some of them do support user upgrades to a certain extent, like the iMac which features a backdoor that lets users add extra RAM modules themselves quickly, easily, and not to mention safely.
